Product Description
The Terrafirma Terradactyl Awning mounts to the left side of your vehicle and when open provides a huge area of shade or shelter around the side and rear. The Terradactyl is self-supporting in moderate weather conditions. All 4 of the sturdy triangulated 2.5m aluminium arms includes an integrated drop down twist and lock leg and sturdy guy rope to secure it to the ground. The canvas is our popular grey 400D ripstop fabric and each wing has a tie down loop to allow water to run off to prevent puddling.
The awning is mounted to the vehicle via the integral T slot extruded aluminium back plate. When stowed away the awning and poles all fit perfectly into its own built-in heavy-duty PVC coated nylon cover. The Terradactyl ‘room’ attaches to the awning with a full-length Velcro strip providing all round shelter with each section including a large roll up external canvas window and a mosquito net, one of which doubles as the full-size entrance door. Additional internal zip open panels allow access to side and rear of the vehicle.

Useless in all but the lightest wind.
First night it rained, lots, in light wind, and the awning and sides functioned rather well, you must guide rope down between the uprights (awning ribs) to prevent water pooling on the roof - ropes are provided for this. The following morning the wind speed increased to 30mph gusts (not even a named storm). The built-in uprights are fairly immovable, being guide roped at the top, and spiked into the ground at the bottom. However, the awning sides are only pegged down in the corners, approx. 2.5m apart. So, when the wind guested, the supplied pegs pulled straight out, allowing the bottom of sides to rise up and push against the uprights bending 2 of them to such an extent they had to be removed to pack the awning away. Contacted Terrafirma and was told “We are happy with the construction and design of the awning”, but IHMO the sides need eyelets in the mud skirt and many additional peg down loops to prevent them from rising up.
